About the Program
The PhD program in Applied Statistics aims to:
•    Provide training for the development of research capabilities in Statistics and its applications
•    Produce skilled statisticians who will improve teaching of statistics in colleges and universities
•    Develop highly trained statisticians to address the needs of the other sciences and the industry as well
•    Provide candidates with skills for multidisciplinary research

The objectives of the Master of Science (MSc) programme in Applied Statistics are to:
•    Train statisticians for industries, institutions and other organization
•    Expose candidates to various branches of statistics for teaching and research.
•    Prepare candidates for PhD programme in statistics

Program Objectives
The MSc in Actuarial Science programme is designed to:
•    Equip students with theoretical and practical knowledge, develop and apply techniques of mathematics, statistics, probability and finance to solving real business problems.
•    Provide high quality training in Actuarial Science.
•    Provide an opportunity for research in Actuarial Science and development of Actuarial products.
•    Provide an opportunity to students from other disciplines to pursue training in Actuarial Science.

Dr Joyce Otieno apart from being a statistics lecturer at Maseno University is an active member of Maseno University Laboratory of Interdisciplinary Statistical Analysis (MU-LISA). Her research interests include Disease Modelling, Time Series Analysis and Data Crunching.
